What ya driving?: Golf MK3 Cabriolet 1.8
My window motor would not work, it was making a small clicking noise, so I bought a new window motor, took off the whole door panel ready to fit the new motor. My friend suggested trying to push the window down whilst pressing the button . The motor became unjammed and works fine now.

If this fails to fix the problem, try checking the wires and switches before you take the door panel off, sometimes it can be a bad earth of the wire or it has come unconnected or broken between the door. The switches are simple to check and replace. A multi meter comes in handy!

Saved me a lot of hassle, now I have an excess window motor I dont need and wasted time taking off the door panel! Just thought I would let others now so they dont have to go through the same trouble I did!

Hope this is useful to someone! Si.

I had this on my mk3 golf, i found the same thing if i pressed on the window it worked, but after about 3 months like that with it sticking and not sticking it eventually packed up altogether, turned out the cable was frayed and was catching somewhere which then decided to wrap round one of the pulleys on the regulator, new reg coming up lol.

But as a general rule it will be a regulator not a motor you need to change
