probably sounds a bit of a thick question but is it easy to take the gear knob off a Passat? to be honest i haven't really had a look at it so would presume it is simply a screw off but i really haven't a clue. can someone help please .......

They normally spin off. Try twisting it anti-clockwise.

have you got the OEM gear knob on that>? it's a straight forward pull off job, no twisting or unscrewing, you need to pull the cowling down iirc, then just pull very hard

hmmmmmmmm well i tried to take it off today and its a spinny one, got the top off but the leather bit round it was still attached and couldn't see a way of it coming off with out a lot of force so have decided to leave it for the minute till i can find someone who actually knows what they are on about (unlike myself) and are there to do it for me lol

wierd, I took mine off and it was just a pull off job, maybe they changed between B5 and 5.5
